As I was sitting in prayer the other night at Adoration, the Lord placed something on my heart. I wanted to share this with you.
We all know the story about the disciples, “they left their nets and followed Him”. We have read and heard this story many times. We see that they left their old way of life. By leaving their nets they broke with the past—their past vocation, their sense of self, and their identity— and fully embraced the future with Jesus. That’s what a disciple does.
"As He was passing along by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, Simon’s brother. They were casting a net into the sea, since they were fishermen. “Follow me,” Jesus told them, “and I will make you fish for people!” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him" ~ Mark 1:16–18.
But tonight, He laid something else on my heart.
Our Nets are our past hurts wounds and sorrows.
Our Nets are our forgiving others, forgiving ourselves, and letting go.
Our Nets are those little things inside of us that we just can’t forget.
Our Nets are holding us back and without leaving our nets, we can’t walk with Him.
“If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me” ~Mark 8:34.
So whenever you hear that chatter from within, your inner negative talk … Drop your Net. Say it out loud,
I leave my Net, I am letting it go…
When that pain starts to appear again, your wounded self …. Drop your Net.
I leave my Net, I am letting it go…
When that doubt appears … Drop your Net.
I leave my Net, I am letting it go…
When you can’t forgive someone … Drop your Net.
I leave my Net, I am letting it go…
When you can’t forgive yourself … Drop your Net.
I leave my Net, I am letting it go…
So as we drop our nets, whatever your nets may be. Drop them! We can’t move forward with Christ unless we have that clear mind body and soul, nothing can hold us back. We must recognize our worth and value. We must realize that we have a greater purpose, so drop your nets and follow Jesus instead. For disciples, following Jesus is both an exit and an entrance; an ending as well as a beginning.
As a follower of Christ, I drop my Net!
